Cementing digital tie ups; After Switzerland and Bhutan, PM Modi launches RuPay in UAE, first amongst Gulf nations

Abu Dhabi, August 24: Tightening noose of enhanced mutual relation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the United Arab of Emirates (UAE) has added a golden feather to the deepened relationship between the two countries. Calling on the Crown Prince Mohamed Bin Zayed, PM Modi discussed a full spectrum of the strengthening India-UAE comprehensive strategic partnership through delegation talks. PM Modi also launched the RuPay card making UAE the first country in the Middle East to launch the Indian indigenous system of electronic payment.

 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 24 launched the RuPay card in UAE during his visit to the Gulf country. Making UAE the first country to launch Indian indigenous system of electronic payment, PM Modi gave a magnificent boost to their relation.

Earlier this week, Navdeep Singh Suri, the Indian Ambassador to the UAE, said, “The UAE is the largest and most vibrant business hub in the region. It hosts the largest Indian community, receives the largest number of Indian tourists and has the largest trade with India. By becoming the first country in the region to introduce the RuPay card, we expect that each of these elements of tourism, trade and the Indian diaspora will benefit.”

 

RuPay Cards are acceptable at 175,000 merchant acceptance locations & 5,000 ATM and cash access locations within UAE. Acceptance of Rupay card in UAE will lower the charges as tourists will save on exchange rate. UAE receives close to 3 million Indian tourists annually. Interestingly PM Modi swiped his Rupay card for buying Indian sweets. 500 million RuPay cards in circulation in India and adopted by Bhutan, Singapore, UAE and next country will be Bahrain.

Building relationship over generations, PM Narendra Modi and Crown Prince Mohamed Bin Zayed, PM Modi discussed a full spectrum of the strengthening India-UAE comprehensive strategic partnership through delegation talks.

Accelerating relations with boosting the bilateral relations has been termed as electrifing new energy to the relationship. Asserting PM Modi as his brother, Crown Prince Mohamed Bin Zayed stated that he was so grateful that his brother is coming to his second home.
