Just 11 days for D-Day! #Chandrayaan2 successfully performed Third Lunar Orbit Maneuver

Bangalore, Aug. 28: With the aim to study the presence of water in Lunar surface, India’s Chandrayaan 2 is orbiting around the Moon. The D-Day is just a few days away when Chandrayaan 2 will successfully be landed on North Pole of Moon.
 

 
 
Now, taking another victorious step to fulfill the Moon dream of India, Chandrayaan 2 successfully performed 3rd Lunar orbit maneuver today which began at 09.04 hrs IST.
 
 
 
 
According to the official release by ISRO, “Third Lunar bound orbit maneuver for Chandrayaan-2 spacecraft was performed successfully today (August 28, 2019) beginning at 0904 hrs IST, using the onboard propulsion system. The duration of the maneuver was 1190 seconds. The orbit achieved is 179 km x 1412 km”.
 
The release also stated All spacecraft parameters are normal.
 
The release also mentioned The next Lunar bound orbit maneuver is scheduled on August 30, 2019, between 1800 - 1900 hrs IST.
 
At the closest point of the new orbit, Chandrayaan 2 is 179 Km away from Lunar Surface; and at the furthest, the spacecraft is 1412 Km away from the Moon.
 
After this, Chandrayaan 2 will perform two more similar maneuvers later this week to bring itself even closer to the Moon. by the evening of Sept. 1, Chandrayaan 2 will be a near-circular orbit of 114 Km x 128 Km around the Moon.
