Indo-Pacific region is highway for trade & prosperity: S Jaishankar at Moscow

Moscow, August 28: "The Indo-Pacific area is our lifeline and also the highway for trade and prosperity," says External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar while speaking at the Valdai Discussion Club, a Moscow-based think tank and discussion forum. He also said, "The changing world had thrown up new concepts and approaches and the Indo-Pacific was one of them."


 

India, the US and several other world powers have been talking about the need to ensure a free, open and thriving Indo-Pacific in the backdrop of China's rising military maneuvering in the region.

Jaishankar arrived in Moscow, on Tuesday on a two-day visit to Russia. He will hold talks with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, today. The External Affairs Minister's visit comes days ahead of the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok from 4 to 6th September where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be the chief guest.

This is Jaishankar’s first visit to Moscow since assumption of office. External Affairs Minister and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will take stock of preparations for the forthcoming visit of Prime Minister to Vladivostok to participate in the 5th Annual Eastern Economic Forum as the Chief Guest and the 20th Annual Bilateral Summit between the two countries. External Affairs Minister and Foreign Minister Lavrov will also discuss regional and international issues of mutual interest.

 

External Affairs Minister will meet Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Yury Borisov. Both of them co-chair the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission – Technical & Economic Cooperation.During his visit, External Affairs Minister will also participate in Valdai Discussion Club interaction on the theme of India's perspective of the Indo-Pacific.
