Bringing convicts behind bars, NIA sentences 19 people including four Bangladeshi citizens in Burdwan Blast case

New Delhi, August 28: Convicting the culprits, the special National Investigation Agency (NIA) has sentenced 19 people including four Bangladeshi citizens, in the 2014 Burdwan blast case. All these accused have confessed to their crimes before the court.

 

It was on October 2, 2014, two people were killed in the busy Khagragarh locality of West Bengal's Burdwan district when an improvised explosive device that they were making went off. The house was taken on rent by banned Jamat-ul-Mujaheedin of Bangladesh (JMB) as a burqa stitching factory.

On 2 October 2014 at 12 noon an explosion occurred in a two-storeyed building in the Khagragarh locality of Burdwan. The locals in the area informed the police and the fire brigade when they heard the sound of explosion and saw smoke billowing out of the first floor room. Two women prevent the police from entering at gunpoint, threatening to blow up the building and destroyed several documents and evidences.

Arresting the two women, more than 50 improvised explosive devices were recovered. The police also seized large numbers of wrist watch dials, SIM cards and tools used to prepare improvised explosive devices. Along with it the police also recovered micro SD cards containing propaganda songs, Taliban training videos were recovered. Fake Indian documents like elector's card and passport were found with maps and half burnt books in Arabic too were recovered. The CID detonated the improvised explosive devices on the banks of Damodar.
