Draping safety shield, Rahul Gandhi switches side, says, ‘Kashmir is internal issue and Pakistan is instigating violence’

New Delhi, August 28: With Pakistan pawning Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in its letter to the United Nations on human rights violation, an embarrassed Rahul Gandhi took a safe shield clarifying Kashmir is India’s internal issue and that there is no room for Pakistan to interfere in it. He has also said that violence in Kashmir is instigated and supported by Pakistan.

 

The recent visit of Rahul Gandhi to the state of Jammu and Kashmir had created chaos in the country. Clarifying his stand, Rahul Gandhi in a tweet said that he disagreed with the Centre on many issues, but wanted to clarify that 'Kashmir is India’s internal issue and there is no room for Pakistan or any other foreign country to interfere in it'. He said there is violence in Jammu & Kashmir owing because Pakistan as it instigates and supports terrorism.

 

On August 25, Gandhi said that opposition leaders and the press got a taste of the "draconian administration" and "brute force" unleashed on the people of J&K when they had tried to visit Srinagar. A delegation of opposition leaders, including Gandhi, wanted to visit Kashmir Valley to take stock of the situation there after the abrogation of the provisions of Article 370. However, they were not allowed to leave Srinagar airport on August 24 by the state administration and had to return to the national capital.

 

Pakistan had written a letter to United Nations Human Rights Council saying that there was violence in Kashmir after it was integrated with India. It quoted the Congress leader as well as PDP Mehbooba Mufti to back its claim. Mufti had called the revocation of Article 370 the 'darkest day' in Indian democracy.

Pakistan's letter to the UNHRC where it makes a case that there is human rights violation in Kashmir, says 'violence acknowledged by Rahul Gandhi who has noted people dying there'. The letter by Pakistan says, "These and other acts of violence have even been acknowledged by mainstream politicians, such as the leader of the Congress party, Mr. Rahul Gandhi who has noted, 'people dying' in Jammu and Kashmir in light of events 'going very wrong there.'" The letter also quotes Mehbooba Mufti where she called the revocation of Jammu and Kashmir the darkest day of Indian democracy. Pakistan has written a paragraph describing Gandhi's statement supporting their narrative.
