‘Walk to Work’ Meghalaya’s version of urging people on fitness emancipating ‘Hum Fit Toh India Fit’

Shillong, August 29: As the entire nation comes together to join the ‘Fit India Campaign’, the state of Meghalaya also launched its ‘Walk to Work’ campaign to emancipate people in staying fit. Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma launched the Fit India Movement in the State by ‘Walk to Work’ and walking from his official residence at Polo to the Secretariat where an official launch programme was held at Yojana Bhawan, Main Secretariat.

Speaking to the gathering, Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma said that the people of the State are aware of fitness and has been a part of tradition and culture and even in the present times a lot of the youth of the State are physically very active. He added that Fitness is not just about the physical health but a holistic well being and fitness of physical, mental and spiritual health.

The Chief Minister also said that as a part of the Fit India Movement the ‘Walk to Work’ on Wednesday in short called WWW would be initiated by him wherein the Chief Minister would walk to office once a week on Wednesdays. The CM also requested all officials, students and whoever who would like to join this campaign to walk to work and their institutions on Wednesdays.

Adding he said though this is not mandatory for all as there are challenges and constraints of distance and other factors he urged all to whom it is possible to join WWW and added that by doing this it will have multiple benefits as it would reduce carbon emissions, reduce traffic , save expenses on fuel at the same time improve health.

Fit India Movement, a nationwide movement that was launched by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi on Thursday at India Gandhi Indoor Stadium at Delhi.
