Main fit to India fit; Body fit to Mind fit! PM Modi launches Fit India Movement, encouraging nation to inculcate sports within

New Delhi, August 29: With a view to encourage people nation-wide to inculcate physical activity and sports in their everyday lives, PM Modi in special moment launched the Fit India Movement at the Indira Gandhi Stadium Complex in New Delhi, urging people to take part in the schedule where the government was just acting as a catalyst.
 
“Sports has direct connection with fitness and that is necessary for a healthy life to sustain. Fitness mission not a government movement. The government only aims to act as a catalyst”, he said while launching the move, further asking everyone to take up sports in their routines in some or the other way.

 
 
PM Modi meanwhile also hailed the sports star Dhyan Chand, it being his natal day, saying that he amazed the world with his his fitness, stamina and hockey stick. At the launch, also Kiren Rijiju extoled the move saying this was the first time a fitness movement was being launched with the participation of everyone.
Ahead of the event launch, he had tweeted, "Tremendous supports are coming from all sections of the society to participate in the Fit India Movement to be launched by PM Narendra Modi ji on August 29 at 10 am. Chief Ministers, corporates and many icons are taking amazing steps to make the programme a grand success”.
“The nation-wide campaign aims to encourage people to inculcate physical activity and sports in their everyday lives”, a statement said. The University Grant Commission has issued a letter to inform the universities to prepare for the Fit India Movement.
A committee comprising government officials, members of Indian Olympic Association (IOA), national sports federations, private bodies and fitness promoters was also formed earlier to advise the government on the Fit India Movement.
 
 
The 28-member committee, under the chairmanship of sports minister Kiren Rijiju, has 12 members from the government, including secretaries of Sports, Secondary Education, Ayush, Youth Affairs, among others.
