New Delhi, September 13: Hours after Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday said the odd-even road rationing scheme will be implemented in the national capital from November 4 to 15, Nitin Gadkari said that the move was not as such required.

"There is no such need of odd-even scheme because the new ring road we have built is helping reduce pollution in Delhi to a certain extent. Besides, my ministry is pursuing road works of about Rs 50,000 crore. Cleaning of Yamuna and other works to curb pollution are also underway", he said supporting his opinion.

"I think Delhi will be pollution free in two years time," he affirmed saying that it was Delhi government's decision if they wanted to implement though.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal meanwhile said that the move was solely aimed at combating high levels of air pollution in winters. Under the scheme, odd and even numbered vehicles ply on alternate days, he added. He also announced plans to buy electric buses and invited corporates to invest in luxury buses. "1,000 electric buses will be introduced in Delhi national capital", he said adding that a bus aggregator policy was to be announced soon.

In 2016, the Odd-Even scheme was enforced twice when vehicles having odd and even number plates were allowed to operate on alternate days as the air quality deteriorated.
