With election machinery ready for polls, Maharashtra gears up for free, fair and transparent polls by October 21

Mumbai, September 21: Turning the clock meters down towards the Maharashtra Assembly polls scheduled on October 21, the State Chief Electoral Officer, Baldev Singh on Saturday affirmed that the state election machinery was geared up to conduct the polls in a free, fair and transparent manner.

 
 
"Enrollment of new names in voter list will continue till the end of the process of filing of nomination papers. We intend to ensure that voting percentage rises as compared to 60.32 per cent in 2014 assembly elections, 50.67 per cent in 2009 assembly elections and 60.79 per cent in 2019 Lok Sabha polls", Singh said addressing the forum here.
 
"Compared to the 2014 assembly elections, the number of voters has increased by 59,17,901. Polling stations in the state have increased by 5,325 in the last five years",he said adding that a total of 1.80 lakh EVMs are slated to get deployed by October 21 elections.
 
Hours after the ECI announced the election date for Maharahtra, CM Devendra Fadnavis also welcomed the biggest festival of democracy. "Each and every citizen should participate in this festival since every vote counts. Your vote is a big strength of the development process," CM Fadnavis said using social media.
