Mumbai, September 27: Today's Google Doodle celebrates the search engine's 21st birthday. 21 years ago, two Stanford Ph.D. students, Sergey Brin, and Lawrence (Larry) Page, published a paper about launching a prototype of a “large-scale search engine.”

"We chose our systems name, Google, because it is a common spelling of googol, or 10100 and fits well with our goal of building very large-scale search engines,” the students wrote.

Today, Google operates all over the world in over 100 languages, answering trillions of search queries each year.

Google is a multinational corporation from the United States of America. It is known for creating and running one of the largest search engines on the World Wide Web (WWW). Every day more than a billion people use it. Google's headquarters (known as the "Googleplex") is in Mountain View, California, part of the Silicon Valley. The current motto of Google is "Do the right thing".
