New Delhi, September 04: In another stance to put control over the illegal practices, the Enforcement Directorate on Tuesday arrested senior Karnataka Congress leader and the party trouble shooter DK Shivakumar, who was being investigated in a case of alleged money laundering.
 
The Enforcement Directorate, which was questioning him over the last four days, said he was not cooperating with the investigation and needs to be questioned while in custody.

 
 
Soon after the said arrest, the accused, turning flagrant abide, congratulated BJP for the arrest mission and said that the Income Tax and the ED cases against him were politically motivated and that he was a victim of BJP’s politics of vengeance and vendetta. 1. Doddalahalli Kempegowda Shivakumar is a Indian politician from the state of Karnataka and a member of the Indian National Congress. He was the minister of irrigation in the cabinet of H. D. Kumaraswamy. Previously he has served as the Minister of Energy in the state under the Siddaramaiah Governement.
 
2. He has declared assets worth Rs 75 crores as of 2008, Rs 251 crores as of 2013 and Rs 840 crores as of 2018, only. Also the Income Tax had conducted raids on Shivakumar in August 2017, recovering more than Rs 300 crores of undisclosed income, then.
 
3. The list of his undeclared assets meanwhile consists of illegal lands in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra, city malls in Dubai, house in Birmingham and around 125 flats in Maharashtra’s Mumbai. Shivakumar assets went up by almost ₹590 Crore in 5 years according to his election affidavit.
 
4. In 2015, the High Court of Karnataka had issued a notice to Shivakumar, some of his family members, and a few granite mining companies on a PIL alleging their role in illegal mining activities in Kanakapura and Ramanagaram sub-districts.
 
5. In 2015, land activists accused Shivakumar and his brother D. K. Suresh of grabbing 66 acres of land, meant for the housing of the poor and underprivileged, in Shanthinagar, Bengaluru. However then cooperation minister HS Mahadev Prasad later gave Shivakumar a clean chit, since he found no proof to establish the Sivakumar's involvement in the scam.
 
Shivakumar's arrest follows that of his party colleague, former Union minister P Chidambaram, in a case involving media company INX Media. The Central Bureau of Investigation, which made the arrest last month after a day of dramatic developments, contended that he was not cooperating with the investigation. The ED today, slates to present him before the court and seek his custody for further investigations.
