Schools shut, flights, trains delayed after heavy showers in Mumbai; IMD issues orange alert for next 2 days

Mumbai, September 04: In the second round up for massive monsoons, recorded heavy rainfall between 8:30 am to 11:30am on Wednesday. Due to continuous heavy rains, waterlogging between Kurla and Chunabhatti, services have been stopped.

 
Issuing a red alert in Thane for next 24 hours, the IMD has forced stop train services temporarily between Thane and CSMT due to waterlogging on tracks.
However, the IMD Santacruz observatory recorded 131.4 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours ending 8:30 am on Tuesday. In the same time period, Colaba observatory recorded 80mm of rainfall.
 
The BMC has meanwhile, urged people to stay indoors amid an IMD warning of heavy rains and has requested people to refrain from rumor mongering that could create panic. Also the civic authorities have declared a holiday in schools amid an orange alert, likelihood of heavy to very heavy rain.
