SC refuses to release Rs 10 cr deposited by Karti Chidambaram

New Delhi, September 5: The Supreme Court today refused to release 10 crore rupees deposited by Karti Chidambaram with the apex court's registry for traveling abroad. A bench headed by Justice Deepak Gupta said, the amount will continue to remain in fixed deposit for another three months. Karti, son of former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram, who is facing proceedings in cases like Aircel-Maxis and money laundering matters, had deposited rupees 10 crores after the court order.


 

Also, last month, In the recent development to the INX Media corruption case, the ED served the eviction notice to the accused Karti Chidambaram and asked him to vacate his Jor Bagh house, which was earlier attached by the agency in relation.

“Following an earlier order of the Adjudicating Authority, PMLA, by which the attachment of the property was confirmed, the immovable property situated at 115-A block 172, Jor Bagh, New Delhi was attached by the Enforcement Directorate on October 10”, the statement confirmed.

A notice issued by the ED further said that Karti P Chidambaram of the property was directed to vacate the said premise and hand over the possession of the property to the undersigned within 10 days from the date of receipt of this notice.

“The property will be kept at the disposal of the ED until further orders and kept intact by all concerned for further proceedings under the act”, the agency affirmed. The case relates to Foreign Investment Promotion Board approval granted in 2007 for receipt of funds by INX Media. The cases filed by the ED as well as the CBI are currently lending before the courts.
