New Delhi, January 13: United with different agenda, different viewpoint, different ideologies; the opposition came together to show their unity against the Bharatiya Janata Party. But like everyone knew, the false wall of unity began to gain cracks with each party swiftly sliding out its hand connected with Congress. And this became quite evident when the opposition Congress slated a meeting on the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), but the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) failed to attend the meet.

While the Trinamool Congress and the Bahujan Samaj Party had already refused to attend the meeting, the Shiv Sena and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) said they were not invited. A total of 20 parties are attended the meeting. Speaking at the meeting, Congress interim Prez Sonia Gandhi asserted that the govt has let loose reign of oppression, spreading hatred and trying to divide our people along sectarian lines. There's unprecedented turmoil. Constitution is being undermined and instruments of governance being misused.

Instigating violence and hatred, Gandhi added saying, “There've been nation-wide protests by youth supported by citizens. Immediate cause is CAA & NRC but they reflect widespread frustration & pent up anger, which is now out in the open. The response of the police in UP & Delhi has been shockingly partisan and brutal.”

The meeting was also attended by former prime minister Manmohan Singh, former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP)'s Sharad Pawar, Communist Party of India - Marxist (CPI-M)'s Sitaram Yechury, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, apart from others. The leaders deliberated on formalising a joint strategy against the CAA as protests continued across the country.
