The effigy that united millions, India’s ‘Statue of Unity’ marks place in 8 wonders of SCO

New Delhi, January 13: Unveiling the 182-metre tall statue dedicated to the man who united the nation, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Statue of Unity was seen by the world in in Gujarat's Narmada district. Becoming one of the most visited tourist spots, the Statue of Unity has been appreciated by one and all estimating to attract about 30,000 people every day. Owing to this, marking a place in the beautifying wonders, the ‘Statue of Unity’ makes it to the eight wonders of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).

External Affairs minister S Jaishankar met Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) secretary general Vladimir Norov in New Delhi on Monday. EAM Jaishankar appreciated the SCO's efforts to promote tourism among member states. He said, the eighth wonder of SCO, which includes the Statue of Unity will surely serve as an inspiration.

 

Both the leaders reviewed progress as India prepares to take up the chair of the Council of SCO Heads of Government. The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), is a Eurasian political, economic, and security alliance. India and Pakistan officially joined SCO as full members at a summit in Astana in 2017.

Adding up to the glory that signifies the statue, the viewing gallery at a height of 153 metres that offers an expansive view of the Sardar Sarovar Dam, the Satpura and Vindhya mountain ranges and other sites. Giving the tourist a glimpse of the ‘Wall of Unity’ which has been created with the earth samples collected from various states across the country. As part of the effort to make the region around the statue a tourist spot, many projects like Valley of Flowers and Tent City have been developed.

Apart from this, adding beauty to the tallest statue of ‘Iron Man’ is the ‘Light and Sound show’ on Sardar Patel in the exhibition hall built at the pedestal of the Statue of Unity. The show will depict the Iron Man of India's fight against British rule. The construction of the statue depicts in detail the reason behind constructing the statue which has attracted tourists making it India’s most visited spot.

The statue, the world’s tallest, located on Sadhu Bet islet on the Sardar Sarovar Dam in Kevadiya, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 31.
