Providing shelter to stray cattle, Himachal Pradesh to set up cow sanctuaries in 11 districts

Shimla, January 2: Providing shelter to the stray cattle, Himachal Pradesh's Department of Animal Husbandry announced on Wednesday that it will set up cow sanctuaries in 11 districts of the state. Cow shelters will be set up in all districts except Lahaul Spiti, to provide shelter to stray cattle in the natural environment.

“There are no stray cattle in Lahaul and Spiti,” said Virender Kanwar, animal husbandry minister. In the initial phase, these cow sanctuaries will be set up at Kotla Barog in Sirmaur, Handa Kundi in Solan, Kheri in Hamirpur, Thana Kalan Khas in Una. As many as six sanctuaries will be set up in Kangra district. Two sanctuaries will be set up in Bilaspur district’s Barota-Dabwal, Shree Naina Devi and Dhar-Tatoh, the minister said.

Moreover, the government is also planning to provide facilities for grazing as per the availability of land resources in the state.

Also, desi cow dung will be sold for five rupees per kg and cow urine for eight rupees a liter. The government has fixed its prices under the Prakrutik Kheti Khushal Yojana. The government has also taken a big initiative for the conservation of the desi cow. Farmers will be able to sell fossil and Ghanjivamrut manure made for the use of natural farming at the rate of 12 and 2 rupees per kg.
