New Delhi, January 6: Home Minister Amit Shah today laid the foundation stone of Delhi Cycle Walk project at Tughlakabad in the National Capital. It is aimed at making the city most walkable and environment friendly.
This 36 kilometre project is the first phase of Delhi Cycle Walk which will have whole network of over 220 km. This cycle walk will cover abundant forests, dense residential areas and work places in close proximity in the city. The project will be based on green strategies and universal accessibility and security have been given due care in it.
On the occasion, Delhi Lt Governor Anil Baijal highlighted the importance of this project and how it will help in addressing environmental issues and traffic problem in the National Capital.
Speaking on the occasion, Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri accused Arvind Kejriwal led Delhi government of only focusing on advertisements. He also talked about regularization of unauthorized colonies in Delhi by Central government.
Home Minister Amit Shah said that this Cycle track will reduce Delhi's pollution by 20 percent. He claimed that BJP will come to power in upcoming Delhi assembly elections.
The Delhi Cycle Walk will be a controlled track with defined and secure entrance points near residential areas and exit points near places of work, schools and so on. These points of entry will be called origin-destination plazas and will have facilities like washrooms, cycle parking and repairs points among other facilities. The project will have universal accessibility, rainwater harvesting chambers, parking spaces and CCTV cameras every 100 metres with a centralised monitoring system.
