Uttarakhand: Doon Valley College sued in scholarship scam worth more than 97 lakh

Dehradun, January 6: New links are being added to the scholarship scam of Rs 97 lakh 57 thousand 500 which raises curtains from Doon Valley College of Professional Education. After SIT investigation, Doiwala Kotwali police has registered a case against the owner and operator of the institute.

The first case of scam came to light from Haridwar in the scholarship given by the Social Welfare Department to students belonging to scheduled castes and tribes. After which, on the orders of the Nainital High Court, the government constituted the SIT to investigate and the investigation of these scams started all over the state. The scam in the Garhwal region is being investigated by a team headed by IPS Manjunath TC.

In the latest case, the case of scholarship scam has also come to light in Doon Valley College of Professional Education, Doiwala. It is alleged that the owner and operator of the institute took a scholarship from the Social Welfare Department by showing fake admission of students. The total amount embezzled by the institute is Rs 97 lakh 57 thousand 500. Sub-Inspector SIT Rohit Kumar has filed a complaint against the owner and operator of Doon Valley College of Professional Education, Doiwala.

He said that the name of the owner and operator of the institute is not mentioned in Tahrir, hence the case has not been named, but the name of the owner and operator of the institute has been registered. Who these people are will be revealed in further investigation.

The scholarship scam that broke out at the Doon Valley College of Professional Education Institute occurred between 2011 and 2016. Senior Sub Inspector Mahavir Singh Rawat said that it has been revealed in the SIT investigation that the institute got scholarship from Social Welfare Department by showing fake admission of total 152 students. In which 11 students were shown in the teaching session 2011-12, one in 2012-13, 97 students in 2013-14 and 43 students in the session 2015-16. While no record of these students was found in the institution.

The CBI on Friday arrested an official of the Himachal Pradesh government and two people in the Rs 220-crore scholarship scam in the state. The agency has arrested the then Superintendent, Department of Higher Education of Himachal Pradesh, Arvind Rajta, Vice Chairman of KC group of Institutions Hitesh Gandhi and then Head Cashier of Central Bank of India S P Singh.
