Creating big vacuum, former Karnataka Governor T N Chaturvedi passes away at 90

Bangalore, January 6: Former Karnataka Governor Triloki Nath Chaturvedi died at the age of 90 on late Sunday night. He was admitted to Kailash Hospital in Sector-27 of Noida, due to sudden chest pain. Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, Karnataka CM B.S. Yediyurappa and many other national leaders condoled his death.

Chaturvedi was the 14th Governor of Karnataka. After retirement from IAS, Chaturvedi held the office of Comptroller and Auditor General of India from 1984 to 1989. He was appointed as Governor of Karnataka in 2002 by the NDA government headed by Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The State saw the Congress government headed by S.M. Krishna, coalition governments headed by N. Dharam Singh and H.D. Kumaraswamy when Chaturvedi was the Governor.
 
A civil servant by profession, Chaturvedi was a member of the Rajya Sabha in the early 1990s and was a member of several committees of the Parliament. Being the chancellor of universities, he was a regular at convocation functions of universities across the State. Chaturvedi was succeeded by Governor Rameshwar Thakur in July 2007.
 
 
 
Chaturvedi was awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 1991. He was also the Governor of Kerala from 25 February 2004, following the death of Sikander Bakht, until June 2004, when he was replaced by a newly appointed governor.
