In a series of tweets, Vidhu Vinod Chopra Films said, “Witness the tale of Kashmiri Pandits, 30 years after they were forced to leave their land, their homes and their lives behind #Shikara.”

“1990, Kashmir - an entire community was made homeless. 30 years later, they still can't return to their homes. Watch as the story of the Kashmiri Pandits finally comes to light #Shikara”

“More than 4,00,000 Kashmiri Pandits lost their homes and became refugees in their own country. Three decades later, watch their story unfold. #Shikara”

The trailer opens with a young couple enjoying moments of love and solitude together. Minutes later, the woman notices fire in the neighborhood. As they rush to the window to see what has happened, we are shown rushes of houses burning and glass panes breaking. This is followed by a montage of events that unfolded in January 1990 as over four lakh Kashmiri pandits were forced out of their home and had to leave the valley. As they become refugees in their own country, the ignominy of staying in relief camps is highlighted.

Shikara has been largely shot in Kashmir. The film is being promoted as a story of a love that remains unextinguished through 30 years of exile.
