Clearing off all speculations, Assam soon to grant Indian citizenship to 3.5 to 4 lakh people under CAA

Guwahati, January 9: With Citizenship Amendment Bill becoming an Act, the states were boiling in rage protesting against the newly formed legislation. With Assam being at the forefront, the Prime Minister, Union Minister and various other leaders came forward clearing off the speculation giving a clear picture to the citizens on the bill. Assuring further, Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on January 9, said that the Citizenship Amendment Act will grant Indian citizenship to not more than 3.5 to 4 lakh people in Assam.

Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal has assured people of protecting the indigenous culture and tradition of the state disallowing any chaos and disruption in the state. While everyone eyed on how this CAA will turn out to be after the most contentious NRC, Finance Minister Himanta Biswas in a press conference said, “It is about the number. This act will grant citizenship to not more than 3.5 to 4 lakh people in the state.”

Slamming the Congress for allowing illegal migrants to settle down, he said. “The people who will get Indian citizenship had settled during Congress rule. Bharatiya Janata Party has not brought them.” He said that the confusion over the granting citizenship will be clear once the application process is over. “Everything related to granting citizenship will be clear once the application process is over. People will get to know whether we are right or not.”

Sarma further said that the BJP is ready to discuss with the agitators on the act issue. “The door is open to all for discussion on the act. But, it seems that the agitators are interested in forming a new political party to overthrow the BJP,” he added.
