Tangled in cobweb of state’s future, Jharkhand Assembly passes Rs 4185 cr supplementary budget

Ranchi, January 9: Tangled in cobweb of state’s future, on the last day of the three-day special Assembly Session of newly constituted Assembly of Jharkhand, a supplementary budget of Rs. 4185 crores was passed by voice vote in the House.

Earlier on this day, Chief Minister Hemant Soren gave the vote of thanks on Governor Draupadi Murmu’s address to the newly elected legislators.

The rural Development department received the highest share of the supplementary budget followed by the Women and Child Development department and Home and Disaster Management department.

Later Speaker Ravindra Nath Mahto adjourned the session sine die.

As per budgetary allocation, the bulk Rs 951.56 crore has been earmarked for the rural development department, while Rs 618.71 crore has been allocated for Home, Prison and Disaster Management department. Similarly, the Government has allocated Rs 555.56 crore for energy.

Before the tabling of the supplementary budget in the house, Governor Droupadi Murmu addressed the lawmakers highlighting the goals and vision of State Government for the next five years.

She said, “The Government is committed for the welfare of scheduled caste/ scheduled tribes and other backward caste communities. The Government work and vision will revolve around the tribals keeping them as a priority.” The Governor also hinted out that the Government will strictly implement the Chottanagpur/Santhal Pargana Tenancy Act (CNT/SPT) Act so that the rights and privileges of tribal communities are protected at every cost. The Governor in her address also stated that the present Government will protect the provisions of the Indian Forest Act.
