MS Dhoni's daughter gets threats on social media after CSK's loss

New Delhi, Oct 10: In yet another toxic misogyny incident, Mahendra Singh Dhoni's five-year-old daughter received assault threats on social media following Chennai Super Kings' loss to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Tuesday night.

 

 

CSK failed to chase a 168-run target and lost the game to KKR by 10 runs. After the loss, CSK skipper Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav were trolled on social media for their poor performance. Though the "violent trolling and abuse of players" which includes dragging their wives and girlfriends for their performance has been regarded as a common reaction from the so-called "fans" every time their favorites lose a match, the hate now seems to be spreading to children and minors.

 

In a disturbing incident, some tweets and Facebook posts were uploaded to threaten Dhoni's five-year-old daughter and not just any threat, these were threats of assault and physical violence. The threats allegedly appeared on Dhoni and his wife Sakshi's Instagram accounts following CSK's loss.

 

Most of the netizens on social media have abused and harassed many players after their poor display in the matches. In the meantime, this is not the first time, of course, that a cricketer's family has had to face online abuse due to their poor performance on the pitch. Most recently, actress Anuskha Sharma, who is married to current Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli, was widely panned on social media for her husband's poor performance. However, threatening the daughter of a player in such a way has been unheard of before.
