Seventh round of military-level talks between India & China underway

Ladakh, Oct 12: The seventh round of Corps Commander-level talks between India and China to preserve "the peace and tranquility along the Line of Actual Control in eastern Ladakh". The Commander level talks between both the countries began at 12 noon on at the Chushul border personnel meeting point on the Indian side.

 

 

The Indian side would be represented by outgoing 14 Corps Chief Lt Gen Harinder Singh and his successor Lt Gen PGK Menon. In the seventh round of Corps Commander-level talks to be held between India and China on Monday, India will continue to demand complete disengagement and de-escalation by the People's Liberation Army (PLA) from the Eastern Ladakh sector.

 

The talks mainly focus on disengagement of forces from several friction points especially finger areas of Pangong Tso to ease the unprecedented tensions on the border between the two countries.

 

According to the reports, for the first time, China also sent a senior level foreign ministry official in their delegation. During the sixth round of talks between commanders on September 21, a senior diplomat and East Asia region joint secretary Naveen Srivastava participated in the Indian delegation.

 

Earlier, the Ministry of External Affairs said that the meeting will take place so that both sides can work towards early and complete disengagement of the troops along the LAC in accordance with the existing bilateral agreement and protocols, and fully restore peace and tranquility.

 

The political and military leadership including External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff Gen Bipin Rawat, Army chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane and Air Force Chief RKS Bhadauria have been involved in tackling the issue of Chinese transgressions that were initiated since in April-May.
