Chennai, October 12: Ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly polls scheduled next year, Southern movie star Khushboo Sundar on Monday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in New Delhi, after ending a six-year-long association with Congress. She joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the presence of BJP National General Secretary C T Ravi and including state unit chief L Murugan.

While joining the party she said, "When you have 128 crore people believing in one man and that is our PM, I think they are doing something absolutely right."

Sundar further added she had realised over a period of time that if the country has to move forward, then someone like Prime Minister Narendra Modi is required to guide the country "in the right direction and to its glory".

She further, “My expectation from BJP isn’t about what party is going to do for me, but about what party is going to do for people of the country."

"I am whole-heartedly in the service of the Bharatiya Janata Party and I promise to do my best in whatever responsibilities given to me. I will make sure that my state sees a BJP government," she said.

The developments come ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections that are slated to be held next year. She was being speculated to join the BJP for quite some time. The rumors sparked off after she backed the Centre’s new National Education Policy.

Earlier today, Sundar sent her resignation letter to Congress’ interim president Sonia Gandhi. In her resignation letter to Sonia Gandhi, she alleged that individuals like her were being "suppressed" by "few elements seated at higher levels within the party" adding that, “People who have no connectivity with the ground reality or public recognition are dictating terms." However, the congress party announced that Sundar was removed from her post of All India Congress Committee spokesperson with “immediate effect.”

Along with Sundar, Madan Ravichandran and Saravanan Kumaran from Tamil Nadu also joined the BJP at the party headquarters here.

Kushbhu has starred in more than 200 films across south Indian languages. In television, she has produced and starred in a couple of soap operas. Before joining the Congress in 2014, the actor was with the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK).
