Incessant heavy rains lashes in several parts of Telangana; Govt declares holiday till Thursday

Hyderabad, October 14: As the heavy rains lashed Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana for the second consecutive day, normal life has been thrown out of gear in Telangana as leading to water-logging in several parts. A red category warning has been sounded in Hyderabad following many reservoirs in and around the capital city receiving flood water to their brims.

The state government has declared a holiday for Wednesday and Thursday due to heavy rainfall. Hundreds of people from low lying areas have been shifted to relief centers in Hyderabad as stormwater flooded their houses. At some places, the ground floor and even first floor inundated as water water-loggings occurred in many places.
Rivers and rivulets are on spate and streams are overflowing at many places in the state. People have been advised not to venture out, especially to close to water bodies. Hyderabad, Yadadri Bhongiri, Medchal Malkajgiri districts received very heavy rainfall Hyderabad recorded one of the highest rainfall measures in the last hundred years, during the past 24 hours. Ghatkesar in Medchal Malkajgiri district near Hyderabad received 32.4 centimeters of rainfall. Over 20 to 30 places in Hyderabad received over 20 cms of rainfall at the same time.
 
Meanwhile, the water level in the Himayatsagar reservoir on the outskirts of Hyderabad continued near the Full Tank Level. Officials said the gates of the reservoir may be opened anytime to let the excess water into the Musi river.
 
 
At least 14 people have died in rain-related incidents in Telangana, which has been witnessing heavy rain for the last two days. In Andhra Pradesh, four have reportedly died in rain-related incidents.
 
Nine persons died when a boundary wall collapsed in Mohammedia Hills in Bandlaguda due to the heavy rains in the past two days. In a separate incident, a 40-year-old woman and her 15-year-old daughter died after the roof of their old house collapsed in the Ibrahimpatnam area in Hyderabad on Tuesday due to heavy rains, police said.
 
 
 
IMD has, meanwhile, warned of thunderstorms along coastal regions in Andhra Pradesh, a day after a deep depression in the Bay of Bengal crossed the coast near Kakinada. Heavy rains are expected to lash Andhra over the next 24 hours.
 
Disaster Management Teams of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation are struggling to rescue and shift people from low-lying areas to relief centers and several teams are working on clearing water loggings from the main roads. Several incidents of felling of trees and electricity polls reported an electricity supply disrupted to many residential areas.
