Qualitative and quantitative reforms will transform India into a global hub

New Delhi, October 19: The qualitative and quantitative reforms carried out by the Government will transform India into a global hub in the higher education sector and make our youth competitive giving them an edge over others, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said while virtually addressing the Centenary Convocation of University of Mysore.

PM Modi stressed that reforms have provided greater autonomy to the educational institutions to take decisions according to their needs. This has improved transparency in Medical education and a decision is taken to appoint a National Medical Commission for this purpose. He said two new laws are being introduced for education in Indian medicine. He also said that infrastructure enhancement and structural reforms introduced by the Government in the last six years has brought in transparency and autonomy in the institutions of higher learning in the country.
 
 
"In the last 6-7 months you might have seen the speed and the ambit of reforms are increasing. Whether it is agriculture, space, defense, aviation, or labor. In every sector necessary changes are being made for growth," he said. He also said that efforts were being made at all levels to make India a global hub for higher education and our youth competitive. Due to reforms more seats in Medical education are now possible. The Prime Minister said that in the last six years, six new IITs, 16 IIITs, seven IIMs, and 15 AIIMS were sanctioned thereby providing greater opportunities for the youth to pursue higher studies.
 
Further, he said that efforts being put into the higher education sector are not just limited to opening new institutions, but also towards reforms in governance and ensuring gender and social participation, by giving them more autonomy, adding that reforms in medical education are aimed at bringing in transparency.
PM Modi also speaks about the National Education Policy, saying skilling, reskilling, and upskilling were the need of the day and the policy focuses on it. He also said that efforts were being made at all levels to make India a global hub for higher education and our youth competitive.
 
PM Modi greeted the people of the state on the occasion of "Nada Habba" (state festival) Dasara. Besides, he expresses his sympathies to flood-affected families in Karnataka and assured that the Central government and state government are making efforts to provide relief in the region.
 
PM Modi said, "There might be restrictions due to COVID-19 but enthusiasm for celebration (of the festival) is still the same. Heavy rains have dampened the spirit of festivities. I express my sympathies to affected families. Centre and state are making efforts to provide relief." Moreover, Karnataka Governor and Chancellor of Universities in the State, Vajubhai Vala, and Deputy Chief Minister C N Ashwath Narayan were among others present on the occasion.
