"Eknath Khadse who along with late Gopinath Munde had been promoting BJP for over three-decade has left the party. He has resigned from the BJP. So, he will be formally given entry to NCP on 23 October," Patil said in a tweet.

Earlier, in a tweet, Khadse has announced his resignation from BJP. "Today, on Wednesday, October 21, 2020, I have resigned from the primary membership of BJP." There had been speculation in the last few days that he may quit the BJP and join the Sharad Pawar-led party.

In 2016, the former revenue minister was in limelight over allegations of graft and conflict of interest in a land deal near Pune due to which he had to resign from the post. In this year, he was denied an election ticket in the state assembly elections held last year, however, his daughter Rohini Khadse was fielded instead, but she lost.
