Anti-China protests held in Toronto on 71st National Day of China

Toronto, Oct 3: On the occasion of 71st National Day of the People's Republic of China, protests erupted outside the Chinese Consulate in Toronto, the biggest city in Canada witnessed a number of protests and marches against Chinese National Day in many areas of the city.

 

 

 

The protest marches broke out after the Chinese flag-raising ceremony took place at the City Hall. Around 300 protesters gathered opposite the Chinese consulate in Toronto to protest against China over several issues including COVID-19. The protests were conducted by members of the Hong Kong, Tibetan, Vietnamese, Mongolian, Taiwanese, and other communities whose freedom is under attack from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

 

 

Members of the Indian diaspora also participated in this protest. The protesters chanted "Free Hong Kong", "Free Tibet" and "Free Vietnam" slogans as they urged the international community to take measures to tackle Chinese aggression against several countries.

 

The protesters, who were in large numbers, were opposing CCP's enforcement of the "Hong Kong National Security Law" and persecution of the Chinese people. During the protest, they tore up and trampled on the CCP flag. Following the protest marches, the flag-raising scheduled to take place by the Ontario Legislative Assembly and Consul General in Toronto was also canceled.

 

A series of protests have taken place since late June when the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress in Toronto staged a protest near the Chinese Consulate in solidarity with India against China's actions in Ladakh. Since then, protests have occurred in Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal.
