Dubai, Oct 6: Making a spectacular comeback from injury for Delhi Capitals, R Ashwin returned with a "first and final warning" of Mankad controversy. The 34-year-old spinner got injured in DC’s first match and missed the next games. He returned to face Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Dubai International Stadium and took one wicket for 26 runs as DC defeated RCB by 59 runs win in the Indian Premier League.

Speaking about the Mankad, Ashwin saw Finch leaving the non-striker’s end before the ball being bowled. But instead of repeating the ‘Mankad’ dismissal of 2019, Ashwin let Finch off with a warning. But it wasn’t just a normal warning. Ashwin said on Twitter it is the first and final warning of 2020 regarding the dismissal.
‘Let’s make it clear !! First and final warning for 2020. I am making it official and don’t blame me later on. @RickyPonting #runout #nonstriker @AaronFinch5 and I are good buddies btw,’ Ashwin said on Twitter.

The one-of-a-kind dismissal was named after India's Vinoo Mankad, who ran out of Australia's Bill Brown by removing the bails at the bowler's end during the 1947 Sydney Test. However, the Mankad dismissal has been widely regarded as unsporting including that of DC head coach, Ricky Ponting.

In the last season of IPL, Ashwin had implemented the same tactic while playing for Kings XI Punjab. While bowling, he stopped in the middle of his delivery and whip off the bails when Rajasthan Royals batsman Buttler was out of his ground.

Prior to the start of the season, Ashwin, who said he was "good buddies" with Finch, has proposed giving a "free ball" to the bowler and docking the batting team five runs when a batsman is caught out by Mankad.
