Govt constructs 3,951 km of roads from April to Sept

New Delhi, Oct 9: Amid the corona crisis, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways on Friday stated that it has successfully completed construction of road length of 3,951 km in the first six months of this fiscal year.

"The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has successfully completed construction of road length of 3951 km during the first six months of this fiscal year (April-Sept period). It has achieved a construction pace of 21.60 km per day despite COVID-19 difficulties. The Ministry has set an ambitious target of constructing 11,000 km road length during this fiscal year," the Ministry said in a statement.
 
Last month, the government said it had constructed 3,181 km of national highways in April-August, surpassing the construction target of 2,771 km. The length of national highway (NH) works awarded during this fiscal also more than doubled as compared to last fiscal, it said.
 
This includes 2,104 km constructed by the State Public Works Department (PWDs), 879 km by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), and 198 km by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL), the statement said.
