Amritsar, November 17:The Election Commission of India on Monday appointed Bollywood actor Sonu Sood as the state icon of Punjab to make people aware about ethical voting.
Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab made this announcement via social media saying, "The real hero of people is now the state icon of Punjab - Sonu Sood."

Punjab Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) S Karuna Raju said his office had sent a proposal to the Election Commission of India in this regard, which was approved.
Expressing his happiness over the announcement Sood said, "I am overwhelmed and extremely grateful for this honor. Having been born in Punjab, this appointment means so much to me, emotionally. I am happy to have made my state proud of me and I am motivated to keep working hard," the actor added.
The actor emerged as the national hero during the pandemic by helping the poor migrant worker who stuck at various places to their homes during the Covid-19 induced lockdown. Sood arranged transport facilities for migrant laborers stuck in various places to their homes.
Not only this but he was also made his hotel in Mumbai available for healthcare workers and provided PPE kits to doctors. He also arranged food for the workers who were badly hit by the health crisis.
Apart from this recently Punjab Government awarded Sonu with the prestigious SDG Special Humanitarian Action Award for his humanitarian work during the pandemic.
