NIA conducts searches at 43 locations and sizes sword, knife, iron rods

Bengaluru, November 19: Days after arresting the main accused of the case, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has conducted searches at 43 locations in Bengaluru city including four offices of the Social Democratic Party of India which is a political wing of the Popular Front of India (PFI0).

During the searches, incriminating materials relating to SDPI / PFI as well as certain instruments for attacks like a sword, knife, iron rods, etc were seized.
 
 
“The cases pertain to large scale rioting armed with lethal weapons causing injuries to police personnel, destruction of public and private property including DJ Halli and KG Halli police stations buildings and public and private vehicles. The riot led to fear and panic in the nearby areas and was intended to cause terror in the society,” the NIA added.
 
The agency has informed that 293 persons have been arrested in connection with the riots so far. In this, 124 arrests were made in relation to the riots in the HJ Halli Police Station case and the rest 169 arrests were in relation to the riots in the KG Halli Police Station case
 
Earlier on Monday NIA arrested former mayor and Congress leader Sampath Raj and Congress corporator Abdul Zakir in a case related to communal riots in the city.
 
On August 11, over 1000 people gathered in front of Congress MLA Naveen Srinivas Murthy's house and vandalise and some vehicles after his nephew shared a derogatory post on social media.
 
Three people were killed in the subsequent police firing which was done to control the mob, one sustained abdominal injuries during the violence, which led to his demise.
