Dubai, Nov 6: The 'absolutely perfect' performance by Mumbai Indians in the Qualifier 1 match of Indian Premier League has given them entry into the finals of IPL. MI demolished Delhi Capitals by 57 runs at Dubai International Stadium on Thursday night.
An all-round performance by defending champions will now see them playing against the winner of Qualifier 2 in the final at Dubai International Stadium on Tuesday, November 10. On the other hand, Delhi will play against the winner of the Eliminator clash between SunRisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore to qualify for the summit clash. The Eliminator will take place on Friday while Qualifier 2 will take place on Sunday.
Asked in to bat first, MI went all gun blazing after the dismissal of skipper Sharma. Suryakumar Yadav and De Kock put up 63/1 in the powerplay. Though Ashwin spun a web around MI batsmen, it did not stop them from scoring runs. Eventually, in the final two overs, Hardik Pandya and Ishan added 38 runs more to the total and as a result, Mumbai posted a score of 200.
Meanwhile, chasing the target of 200, Trent Boult and Bumrah did not give any room for DC batsmen to score runs as they shattered the Delhi batting line-up. However, with Axar Patel and Stoinis coming on the field, they stitched a 71-run partnership. Meanwhile, the Australian all-rounder completed his half-century off 36 balls but it meant not enough as Delhi was only able to post 143/8 in their 20 overs.
Brief Scores: Mumbai Indians 200/5 (Suryakumar Yadav 51, Ishan Kishan 55*, Ravi Ashwin 3-29) defeat Delhi Capitals 143/8 (Marcus Stoinis 65, Axar Patel 42, Trent Boult 2-9, Jasprit Bumrah 4-14) by 57 runs.
