Lucknow, Dec 11: In Uttar Pradesh, section 144 has been imposed on the Ghats of river Ganga in Varanasi and taking selfie while standing during boat ride in river has been strictly prohibited.
Varanasi district administration has issued many guidelines regarding the boat ride in River Ganga for the safety of passengers in water bodies. Varanasi district magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma has ordered for strict implementation of section 144 on the Ghats of river Ganga. He said that other than prohibition of selfies during rides, overloading in the boats will not be allowed.
No boatmen will be allowed to carry the passengers in waters without providing them the life jackets. And yet if any boat man was found violating the orders strict action will be taken against him and the license of boat will be cancelled.
The decision was taken after the unfortunate incident of the death of 4 students by drowning in the river at night on Dec 6, at Bhadaini ghat.
Police have arrested the accused which earlier claimed that the boat capsized when one youth tried to take selfie in midstream. Later during investigation it was revealed that the boat was overloaded and nobody was wearing life jackets.
