Mumbai, Dec 15: In a major operation, Maharashtra Police's Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) arrested a gang of eight persons in Mumbai who is supplying fake identity cards to illegal Bangladeshi immigrants.
According to an official statement, ATS received a tip-off and raided the premise of a Bangladeshi immigrant in Mumbai and seized documents and equipment used for making fake passports. They seized fake documents like Indian passport, Aadhar, Pan Card, forged rubber stamps, and cheque books.
In addition to this, ATS also seized a huge amount of Bangladeshi currency, mobile phones, Bangladeshi SIM cards, Indian SIM cards, and ATM Cards. Accordingly, a case has been registered under relevant sections of Passport Act and Foreigners Act at Kalachowki police station.
On November 29, the ATS received information about a Bangladeshi national in Mumbai preparing and supplying fake Indian identity cards like Aadhaar, EPIC, and PAN to other illegal immigrants. A trap was laid and Akram Noor Nabi Ollauddin Shaikh, 28, of Novokhali in Bangladesh was intercepted from Mumbai. He had traveled to India without valid documents. Noornabi in Mumbai and Rafiq Shaikh Kausa in Mumbra helped him. A case was lodged. An accused's custodial interrogation revealed that he had been preparing fake passports since 2013.
Out of the, One Idris Mohammad Shaikh, 57, resident of Mumbra had played an active role in preparing forged School Leaving Certificates and Birth Certificates. Avin Gangaram Kedare, 35, resident of Antop Hill, Mumbai, helped Idris in preparing fake rubber stamps to make forged documents. One Nitin Rajaram Nikam, 43, resident of Taloja, Navi Mumbai, provided fake bank passbooks and election cards.
