Mumbai, December 24: Months of directed investigation and ton of redressed scrutiny has led the Maharashtra CID Crime Branch to arrest 24 more suspects including 5 minors in the Palghar lynching case. The 19 accused have been sent to judicial custody till January 5 after they were were produced before the court on Thursday, whereas the 5 minor accused have been sending to Bhiwandi remand home.
This is after the CID on Wednesday put 19 persons, one of them aged 70, behind the bars in connection with the lynching of two sadhus and their driver by a mob in Palghar district in April. They were found at Gadchinchale village where the incident had taken place. Last week the Supreme Court had adjourned a plea seeking CBI inquiry of the lynching. A few cops were also held accountable in this case.
So far 248 accused have been arrested for the mob violence, of which 105 have been granted bail. Also, 15 minors have been detained so far in the case. The brutal mob attack took place amid rumours that child-lifters were roaming in the area during the lockdown.
The case, initially probed by the Palghar police, was later handed over to the CID, which has already filed charge-sheets.The lynching victims were identified by the police as Chikne Maharaj Kalpavrukshagiri (70), Sushil Giri Maharaj (35) and their driver Nilesh Telgade (30).
