IT ministry issues stern notice to Wikipedia for showing the wrong map of J&K

New Delhi, December 03: After flagging Twitter for endorsing an erred map of Jammu & Kashmir, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has issued a stern warning to digital encyclopedia Wikipedia for showing a wrong map of the Indian territory.

IT ministry has issued an order under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act, 2000 directing Wikipedia to remove a link from their website that has shown the wrong map of Jammu and Kashmir.
 
The issue came to light when a Twitter user highlighted out the Wikipedia page on India Bhutan relationship contained that the map that incorrectly depicted the map of Jammu Kashmir.
 
 
According to the notice if digital encyclopedia major does not follow the direction of the government then the ministry will take serious legal action against Wikipedia. The government could block access to the entire platforms as per section 69A of the Information Technology Act 2000.
 
This is not the first time earlier, Meity has also issued a stern warning to the social media giant Twitter, for tagging Leh Ladakh as a part of China during a live broadcast.
