Shimla, Dec 9: The 'Bharat Bandh' call given by farmer unions against the Centre's agriculture laws failed to evoke much response in Himachal Pradesh as most shops and business establishments remained open for the public. CM Jai Ram Thakur has called the Bandh to be a complete failure in the state.

Although Congress and Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) had held separate dharnas in Shimla and other districts, but most of the shops were open on Mall road, middle and lower bazaar and other areas, in Shimla.

CM Thakur said that the traffic movement around the state was normal as usual, with a few exceptions and thus, 'Bharat Bandh' was termed to be a complete failure by the Chief Minister. He said that the opposition leaders have failed to garner the support of common man as people of the State know that agriculture laws enacted by the Central Government is beneficial for the farmers.

The Chief Minister has also stated that the opposition parties were desperately trying to rake up this whole issue in a bid to remain politically alive. He pointed out that the same political parties who are now opposing these laws, had given their full support to the Bills in the UPA Government led by Dr Manmohan Singh.
