Deepening bilateral ties, PM Modi meet Portuguese President; Sign 7 agreements for mutual development

New Delhi, February 14: Exploring ways to deepen bilateral ties in a range of areas including trade and investment, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa held extensive talks on Friday, signing seven agreements in the wake of mutual development.

Sousa, who arrived here on Thursday night on a four-day visit, covered entire expanse of bilateral ties including in areas of trade, investment and education. This being Portuguese President Sousa's first visit to India, the last visit to India ever by any Portugeses President was back in 2007.
While Sousa is accompanied by a high-level delegation, the Portuguese president was accorded a ceremonial welcome at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Further, President Ram Nath Kovind is slated to meet the visiting president today evening and host a banquet in his honour. Sousa meanwhile, is also travel to Maharashtra and Goa during his visit.
 
India’s relations with Portugal are marked by warmth and friendship and have assumed dynamism in recent years. Recent high-level political exchanges include the visit of Prime Minister Antonio Costa to India in December last year and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Portugal in June 2017. The two countries have active and growing cooperation in the field of economy and business, science, culture and education. They share considerable convergences on international issues.
