Championing climate action! PM says India among countries whose actions compliant with Paris Agreement goal

Gandhinagar, February 17: "India is one of the few countries whose actions are compliant with the Paris Agreement goal of keeping rise in temperature to below two degree Celsius", affirmed PM Modi today while addressing COP13 delegates in Gandhinagar via video conferencing from Delhi.
 
India has been championing climate action based on values of conservation, sustainable lifestyle and green development model, he added noting that India is working to conserve migratory birds.

"For ages, conservation of wildlife and habitats has been a part of the cultural ethos of India, which encourages compassion and co-existence. India is one of the most diverse countries of the world. With 2.4% of world’s land area, it contributes about 8% of the known global biodiversity", he noted.
Lauding COP13, PM Modi said, "We have been traditionally practicing the mantra of 'Athithi Devo Bhava', this has been reflected in the slogan theme for the CMS COP 13- Migratory species connect the planet and together we welcome them home”.
 
 
"India proposes to strengthen its association with the ASEAN and East Asia Summit countries. This would be in sync with the Indo Pacific Ocean Initiative (IPOI), wherein India will be playing a leadership role"m he said ensuring sustainable development in India happens without harming the environment.
