Guest, our God! Donald Trump and First Lady arrive in India; Spin Charkha at Sabarmati Ashram

Ahmedabad, February 24: US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump arrived in India and were received by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Ahmedabad airport in presence of Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat and Chief Minister Vijay Rupani. After President Trump accepted the ceremonial guard of honour, PM Modi, Trump and the First Lady headed to the Sabarmati Ashram.

 

 

While PM Modi was expected to give Trump a tour of the Ashram, this is expected to be a brief stop. Trump in the Aashram spinned the charkha similar to what Chinese President Xi Jinping, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had done during their visits.

 

 

Trump is reportedly the first US President to visit the Sabarmati Ashram. After a tour of the Ashram and spinning the charkha, President Trump signed the visitors’ book. POTUS and PM Modi will address the ‘Namaste Trump’ event at the reconstructed Motera cricket stadium in the city later evening.

 

 

A road show is planned and a huge reception will be held in a 110,000-seat cricket stadium in the city which is the political home of Modi. A huge crowd has filled the stadium, claimed to be the world’s biggest cricket ground. However, Trump and his wife Melania will then proceed to Taj Mahal in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, before heading to New Delhi. There are a number of events lined-up for Trump tomorrow as well.
