The announcement that Mr. India will be rebooted in the form of a trilogy, to be directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, did not go down well with the makers of the original. The incident took place when Tiger Zinda Hai director announced that he is going to write and the direct Mr. India trilogy being produced by Zee Studios. Soon after he tweeted the news spread all over like fire. Some netizens asked Mr. India director Shekhar Kapoor about his reaction on the spin - off, to which Kapoor revealed that he was equally 'amazed' about Mr. India 2.
Replying to the announcement, he wrote, “No one has even asked me or mentioned to me about this film called Mr. India 2. I can only guess that they are using the title to get a big weekend. For they cannot use the characters or story without permission from the original creators of the film.”
To this, Akhtar replied that he had contributed immensely to the making of the film, the credit of which doesn’t completely belong to Kapur. The announcement had also irked actress Sonam Kapoor who argued that nobody bothered to ask her father, Anil Kapoor, who starred in the original. The film, written by Salim Khan and Akhtar, featured Anil Kapoor as Mr. India and late Sridevi as a journalist, with veteran actor Amrish Puri playing the iconic villain Mogambo.
