IAF airlifts 58 Indian citizens from Iran; To be quarantined at Hindan airbase

Ghaziabad, March 10: The Ministry of External Affairs has once again with the assistance of the Indian Air Force evacuated 58 Indian citizens. However, now it is from the Corona virus-hit Iran province. It has airlifted the first batch of 58 Indian pilgrims from Tehran and they were landed at the Air Force Station at Hindan airbase here in this morning.

Confirming the news, the External Minister Dr. S Jaishankar tweeted, "The IAF aircraft has landed. Mission completed. On to the next". He also informed that they are working towards the other Indians stranded there in Iran. A military aircraft, IAF C-17 'Globemaster' soared on Monday evening from Hindan airbase to airlift Indian citizens from Iran".
"It also had a specialist medical team. The 58 Indian citizens, include 25 men, 31 women, and 2 children. It also carried 529 samples for investigation. The passengers are screened where medical facilities including quarantine have been set up. The IAF has activated necessary medical protocols & has put required facilities in place to provide fellow citizens with adequate care and support", he added.
In Iran, almost 237 people have died while around 7,000 people have been tested positive due to Corona virus. There are almost 2000 Indians living in Iran which has been largely witnessed the increasing numbers of cases because of this virus. It is the second evacuation by the C-17 Globemaster in the last two weeks. On February 27, 112 people including 76 Indians and 36 foreign nationals were evacuated from the largely-hit Wuhan by the aircraft of the Indian Air Force.
