The first casualty of COVID-19 confirmed in Karnataka

Kalburgi, March 13:  The Karnataka government has confirmed the death of a 76-year-old man in Karnataka, who passed away two days ago, was caused due to the Coronavirus and co-morbidity resulting the first casualty in the country.

The person who had returned from Saudi Arabia had landed in Hyderabad on 29th February before going to Kalburgi. He had co-morbidities such as hypertension and asthma. While he was asymptomatic on his return, he started to develop symptoms like fever and cough on 6th March. However, the symptoms got aggravated and was shifted to a private hospital. The hospital reported that he was diagnosed with "mid-zone Viral Pneumonia" and "suspected COVID-19".
The center even reported that his family refused to listen to Deputy Commissioner of Kalburgi to admit him at Gulbarga Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) and transferred him to Hyderabad "without his knowledge". After his treatment was over in Hyderabad, he was immediately discharged. However, when he was being brought back he died on the way on Tuesday late night.
 
Many speculations build-up about how can the Hyderabad hospital can discharge such a highly affected person was discharged within a day. Meanwhile, the confirmed cases have reached up to 79 in India including six from the Karnataka. The World Health Organization (WHO) on Wednesday has declared the coronavirus outbreak as a pandemic. According to the latest reports of WHO, 132,567 people are tested positive and 4,947 deaths are reported across 123 countries.
