SAARC together against Corona! PM Modi proposes nations to leave no stones unturned ensuring people safety

New Delhi, March 13: Taking a novel initiative to chalk out a strong strategy fight Coronavirus, PM Modi on Friday proposed the leadership of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) nations to leave no stones unturned ensuring the safety and health of people.
 
"Our planet is battling the #COVID19 Novel Coronavirus. At various levels, governments & people are trying their best to combat it. South Asia, which is home to a significant number of the global population should leave no stone unturned to ensure our people are healthy", he said.

"We could discuss, via video conferencing, ways to keep our citizens healthy", he added. Responding affirmative to the said proposal, Bhutanese PM lauded PM Modi for his leadership. "This is what we call leadership. As members of this region, we must come together in such times. Smaller economies are hit harder, so we must coordinate. With your leadership, I've no doubt we will see immediate&impactful outcome", he noted.
Meanwhile, Maldives President, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih thanked PM Modi for taking the initiative on this important endeavor. "#COVID19 requires collective effort to defeat it. Maldives welcomes this proposal and would fully support such a regional effort", he said. Also Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa thanked India for the greater initiative. "Sri Lanka is ready to join the discussion & share our learnings & best practices & to learn from other SAARC members. Let's unite in solidarity during these trying times & keep our citizens safe", he promised.
What's more is Nepal PM KP Sharma Oli too welcomed the idea advanced by India for chalking out a strong strategy by the leadership of the SAARC nations to fight coronavirus. "My government is ready to work closely with SAARC Member States to protect our citizens from this deadly disease", he said. The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) is the regional intergovernmental organization and geopolitical union of states in South Asia. Its member states are Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
 
While corona gets busy tightening its grip across the globe, the other SAARC members like that of Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan are yet to come in support of India. The globe has till date noted corona deaths of more than 4000 and a lakh patients fighting the epidemic.
