COVID-19 takes its toll! 68-year-old Delhi woman becomes second fatality in India

New Delhi, March 14: The second casualty is confirmed by the Ministry of Health, with a 68-year-old woman from Delhi who had tested positive for novel coronavirus has succumbed to the infection of Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Friday. The woman's son who had tested positive for COVID-19 after returning from Switzerland on 23rd February.

The statement issued by the Health Ministry reported, "She had history of contact with a positive case (her son who had travel history to Switzerland and Italy between 5th to 22rd February, 2020). The son had returned back to India on 23.02.2020. He was initially asymptomatic, but developed fever and cough after 1 day and reported to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital on 7th March, 2020. As per protocol, the family was screened and since he and his mother had fever and cough, both were admitted."
However, she was also suffering from diabetes and hypertension. She was, later on 9th March, diagnosed with pneumonia and was shifted to intensive care unit with her sample testing positive for COVID19. Due to co-morbid conditions, her death was informed on Friday at RML Hospital, Delhi as confirmed by the treating Physician and Medical Superintendent.
Earlier, on March 10, a 76-year-old man from Kalburagi in Karnataka with Covid-19 symptoms, had died. The tests results on Thursday confirmed he was tested positive for the COVID-19, making him the frist casulaty of India. The Health Ministry has declared the 81 confirmed cases in the country including 3 discharged from Kerala after getting treatment and seven more from Safdarjung, too, recovered. 136,895 people have been tested positive along with 5,077 deaths across 123 coutries, according to the latest reports of WHO.
