This malware was first spotted by Shai Alfasi, a security researcher at Reason Labs, who revealed that hackers are accessing personal user credentials stored on browsers such as usernames, passwords, credit card numbers, and more with the help of fake Coronavirus maps (Corona hacking). The malware is being disguised as “Coronavirus Map” and it looks a lot like authentic maps that can track the spread of Coronavirus. These fake malware-ridden maps have certain details added as compared to the original one.

He further clarified over the social media that the hackers (Corona hacking) are mostly using malicious software called AZORult to execute this method and inject user’s devices with malware. The software was first created in 2006 to steal data from the user computer and infect it.

“It is used to steal browsing history, cookies, ID/passwords, cryptocurrency and more. It can also download additional malware onto infected machines. AZORult is commonly sold on Russian underground forums to collect sensitive data from an infected computer,” Alfasi said. Cyber security related issues have become a major rife.
