Mumbai, Mar 17: The outbreak of coronavirus is going to affect the railway commuters in Maharashtra. In view of the outbreak of coronavirus the Railway administration has decided to increase the platform ticket from existing Rs 10 to Rs 50 – effecting a whooping five-time hike in one single go!
The people are already under the shadow of COVID-19 and avoiding crowd is supposed to be the best prevention against this virus. So, to avoid crowding at local railway stations in Mumbai, the railway administration has taken this decision, sources said.
These new ticket rates will be applicable at 200 railway stations in Mumbai. Similarly, some long-distance trains are also canceled or rescheduled.
A twitter message of Western Railway said, “With a view to restrict/discourage the number of passengers in railway premises including platforms and FoBs, to prevent the danger of effects of CORONA virus, the rate of platform tickets of Stations of Mumba Division of WR has been increased with effect from 17.03.2020 till further orders”.

Meanwhile, the Central Railway has canceled some long-distance trains and rescheduled some other trains to avoid crowd and to contain the spread of coronavirus. A twitter message of Central Railway gave the details of canceled and rescheduled trains.
