Congress should not forget how it had nominated former CJI, a member of Rajya Sabha. Justice Ranganath Mishra who was member of Rajya Sabha from 1998 to 2004 from the Congress Party, had gave clean chit to 19 INC workers who had abetted the 1984 anti-Sikh riots!
 
Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi on Monday got nominated as member of Rajya Sabha by the President Ram Nath Kovind and this to no surprise has allured a lot of attention with the opposition parties slamming the decision of the Modi-led government!
 
Gogoi who had retired on November 17, last year was nominated by the President. The maximum strength of Rajya Sabha is 250 members, out of which 12 are nominated by the President of India. The nominated members are usually amongst persons having special knowledge or practical experience in literature, science, art and social service.

The 65-year-old who was the 46th Chief Justice of India (CJI) for more than a year had contributed in major landmark judgement including politics, religious and governmental affairs. The most recent and one of the oldest pending case being the Ayodhya land dispute case.
 
The Ayodhya case which not only dealt with religious aspects but also with political one. The Supreme Court bench, headed by Gogoi declared the final verdict regarding the Ramjanbhoomi-Babri Masjid case on 9th November 2019 after it was filed in January 1950.
 
Gogoi who also had headed three-judge bench had rejected a review petition, giving a clean chit about the Rafale deal on 14 November which had created chaos among the political leaders. On the other hand, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi faced contempt charges for wrongly attributing PM Narendra Modi over his 'chowkidar chor hai' remark.

The former had further slammed the petition against the scrapping of Article 370 was filed by advocate ML Sharma. Yet, keeping all these hisotrical judgements in mind, the opposition parties has been pointing fingers at the government calling it as influential.
